How may we help you?

If you are promoting Fairtrade in Prestonpans, we want to help!

There are a number of ways we can help.  We can:

  • supply coffee beans for "guess the number of beans in a jar" (pre-counted for you!)
  • donate a small raffle prize
  • provide Fairtrade sugar sticks, coffee and tea (while stocks last)
  • offer advice
  • lend our 5' inflatable banana!
  • help out at a stall.
  • publicise your event
  • host an information stall

We were delighted to see a group of S1 pupils from Preston Lodge carrying out a Fairtrade audit last Friday.

The pupils were asking local business and organisations what they were doing to support Fairtrade and whether they would would be interested in joining the Steering Group.

Well done S1 - we can't wait to see the results!

Meanwhile, if you want to tell us what you are doing to support Fairtrade or would like to join the Steering Group, get in touch!

Win a Real Easter Egg

It's hard to believe that, out of the whopping 80 million chocolate Easter Eggs sold each year, not one of them mentions Jesus on the box. Until now that is.  The Real Easter Egg ( is the first and only Fairtrade chocolate Easter Egg to explain the Christian understanding of Easter on the box. It also supports charity and development projects.

Having distributed more than 120,000 Real Easter Eggs, The Meaningful Chocolate Company has now sold out of its mail order supply of eggs for 2012, but Prestonpans Fairtrade Town Steering Group is giving local residents a chance to win one.
Simply answer the following questions:

  1. When was Prestonpans first awarded Fairtrade Town status?
  2. Name three places in Prestonpans that sell Fairtrade goods?
  3. Who can join the steering group?
(Hint: look at

Answers, together with your name, address and telephone number, should be sent to by Monday April 2nd 2012.

Taking a Step in Prestonpans

On Saturday, the Steering Group held an information day in the Library.

We couldn't work out how to use the library's projector but fortunately, Prestonpans Primary teacher, Mr Whitfield (seen here with the banana!) sorted it out and we were able to show three short films about Fairtrade.

We were really taken aback how few people knew that Prestonpans is a Fairtrade Town.  This really reinforces the need for signage at each of the four gateway signs.

When we explained about the benefits such signage would bring to the town, people were keen to show their support.  Look out for our campaign literature and please add your support!

Fairtrade Cotton exhibition by Prestonpans Primary School

Short films + Small World stall
We were keen to show how everyone benefits from Fairtrade - the producer, the consumer and the environment - so we had a Fairtrade Tombola where every ticket was a winner!

It was a great way to show the range of Fairtrade products available.

These happy winners were pleased to win a disposable barbecue, a box of tissues and sugar sticks!

And of course, we collected people's 'steps' for Fairtrade.  If you want to take a step for Fairtrade, you can do so online here.

Remember, we have promotional material (and an inflatable banana!) that you can borrow.  If you are running a Fairtrade event or competition in Prestonpans, we might even be able to help you out with prizes.

Primary School Pop-Up Cafe!

The Fantastic Fairtraders of Prestonpans Primary hosted a community cafe on Friday 2nd March.

If you missed out on the delicious homebaking, Fairtrade coffee and tea, and the film about Fairtrade, you get another chance on Friday 9th March 10.30-12 - all welcome.

This is a fantastic initiative - please support them!
